It’s Health Coach Week! To celebrate, we’ll be featuring inspiring stories of Health Coaches who are doing amazing work in their homes, workplaces and communities. Today we’re excited introduce you to 2009 IIN graduate Amie Valpone She’s taking over our Instagram account today, and shared an amazing recipe on our Recipes Blog!
Many Integrative Nutrition graduates have a similar story. After visiting all the doctors and trying all the medications, yet still sick, they felt helpless.
That’s what 2009 grad Amie Valpone thought. However, after years of struggle she took matters into her own hands. She found IIN and began to understand what was going on with her body. Not only was she able to heal several chronic diseases, she launched an entirely new career in which she helps other do the same! As the founder of healthy living blog The Healthy Apple, chef, motivational speaker and soon-to-be cookbook author, Amie has been able to support others in the same place she was and reach them on a whole new level.
Read on to hear how she transformed her health and in turn, created the career of her dreams, then head over to our Recipes Blog to get her recipe for Gluten-Free Moroccan Chickpea Skillet Pizza from her upcoming cookbook!
What were you doing prior to enrolling at Integrative Nutrition?
I was working in fashion at Ralph Lauren corporate and VOGUE magazine!
What led you to explore the Health Coach Training Program?
I started to feel really sick and after seeing over 500 doctors, I needed to start to figure out for myself what was going on in my body.
How did your life change after enrolling?
I went from working at VOGUE to being surrounded by food in a kitchen all day. It's been an amazing shift and I'm so grateful for IIN and how it started my career path!
Which topics and modules were most beneficial for you?
Dr. Mark Hyman is amazing; his work is incredible and he's such a genuine, sincere person. His website and books have taught me so much about what wellness really means! He's incredible, and I'm honored that he wrote the foreword for my cookbook.
What are you up to now?
I am a celebrity chef, recipe developer, food author and soon-to-be published cookbook author! My book is coming out March 8, 2016, called Eating Clean: The 21-Day Plan to Detox, Fight Inflammation & Reset Your Body. I'm also a spokesperson for healthy brands and I speak nationwide at conferences and events.
What makes you unique?
After 10 years of chronic illness (Lyme, C-diff colitis, PCOS, Hypothyroidism and so much more) I've learned how to heal my body when no doctor could help me. I've learned that you have to be in charge of your own health, challenge your doctor when needed, and stay on top of everything such as bloodwork results. This is what makes my practice unique because I'm able to connect on a deeper level with my clients since I've been in their shoes before and I understand the struggle and feeling alone and everyone is just guessing based on your symptoms!
How do you help your clients be successful?
I've been through just about every chronic illness and healed from it all, so I know first hand how to navigate through symptoms and how to help my clients when doctors aren't listening or when they feel like they've hit a wall and aren't getting any better! Helping support their detox pathways and teaching them how to clean up their lifestyle and food is amazing!
What do you love about your work?
I love meeting new people, inspiring students and watching my clients heal. I also love my relaxed schedule and having time to 'have balance' in my life!
