Health Coach Feature: How Candice Puthawala Turned Her Burnout into Breakthrough

Candice Puthawala is a certified holistic Health Coach and the creator of Beauty Bar Chocolate.

Candice worked for over 18 years in the fashion industry, and being a young mama in the fashion world meant she had to live life on a fast-forward button. She always strived for a balanced life but struggled to achieve it. By living this way, she burned out her entire body and became ill with autoimmune issues and lots of anxiety as a result; she had no more inspiration in her life. Her health and well-being were off from living a life in constant state of stress.

She left the fashion world to heal and change her life. She found herself in the wellness world and became a holistic Health Coach and a certified plant-based chef.

Beauty Bar Chocolate was born from a need for something sweet and healthy. The sugar-free dark chocolate with adaptogens and pearl collagen will help bring you a peaceful and focused mind while giving you glowing skin.

Q: What were you doing prior to enrolling at Integrative Nutrition?
A: I had just left my 18-year career in the fashion industry. I used to own a women’s contemporary wholesale showroom in Los Angeles.

Q: What led you to explore the Health Coach Training Program?
A: I left the fashion world to heal from burnout, autoimmune issues, and anxiety, and overall I wanted to change my direction in life. I have always been passionate about health and wellness, and it was no surprise I was pulled into this direction.

Q: How has your life changed since becoming a Health Coach?
A: Everything has changed for me. I am kinder to myself in every way. I was able to reverse my autoimmune disease and start living my life to its highest potential. I am the happiest and healthiest I have ever been in my life.

Q: Which topics and modules were most beneficial for you?
A: I really loved the topics about spirituality and mindfulness. I always say you can eat all the kale in the world, work out, and get eight hours of sleep every night and still get ill like I did. It wasn’t until I started to focus on my beauty from the inside out that I started to heal.

Q: What does a typical day look like for you now?
A: I try to start my day with a 10-min grounding meditation, which helps me begin in a calmer way. I get a lot done in one day, and it always changes. The days I am in my chocolate production start at 5am in my commercial kitchen. I am part of every step of my chocolate. I like to oversee that the quality is perfection. Other days, I am shipping orders and on social media networking daily, and on weekends, you can find me at wellness events all over Los Angeles speaking or with chocolate tastings. I have been doing chocolate meditations at events now, which is a mindful way to eat chocolate.

Q: What makes you and your practice unique?
A: My brand is my story, and I want to share that with others. I never look to other brands for inspiration; my inspiration comes from me and my experiences.

Q: How do you help your clients be successful? Is there a recent example that stands out for you?
A: I inspire others to be their happiest and healthiest self through eating healthy chocolate. One of my customers told me she was trying to go sugar-free but struggled. She was able to transition off sugar by eating Beauty Bar Chocolate when she got a craving. She feels more energy, and her skin is glowing!

Q: What do you love about your work?
A: I love being at wellness events collaborating with other wellness ladies. I love meeting other women and educating others about focusing on beauty from the inside out. I know what it feels like to be burned out. I talk about the benefits of living sugar-free and adding adaptogens and collagen to the diet. I also talk about the healing powers of cacao.

Q: How have you seen the need for Health Coaches change over the years?
A: 100 percent!! We are in a time where most people are burned out, and illnesses such as autoimmune diseases are on the rise. People need help learning how to heal their guts and mind and live life to its fullest.

Q: What’s your tip for balancing your family, work, and personal wellness?
A: This has been a hard one for me to learn, and I strive daily to achieve balance. I started to make space for myself when I eat. I don’t walk, drive, or look at my phone while I have a meal these days. On the days I am very tired, I will take some time off to get a massage, walk on the beach, or even take a nap. I never want to live my past life where I burned myself out.

Q: Tell us your favorite way to wake up each day!
A: I am not grounded by nature, and I used to jump out of bed and start my marathon!! I was on a fast-forward button for most of my life. My favorite way to wake up now is to do 10 to 20 minutes of meditation on the Insight Timer app and cuddle my dogs for a minute. Then I am ready to start my day grounded and peaceful.
