We’re excited to introduce our February 2018 Sampson Foundation winner, Joshua P. Haun. Joshua was awarded free tuition to our Health Coach Training Program because of his passion for health and wellness and desire to use an Integrative Nutrition education to better his community!
Joshua and his wife, Mary, are the cofounders of Living Prayer Ministries, which offers mentoring, presentations, and workshops on spiritual transformation and guided nutrition.
Here’s a bit of Joshua’s story in his own words:
“Both of my parents passed away from complications associated with obesity and diabetes. I helped my father go through four years of dialysis – often carrying him from the car to the house afterward as he did not follow food and fluid restrictions, making him very fatigued when done with the treatment each time. I also saw my mother lie in bed for the last four years of her life as she was too heavy to walk and was also on dialysis. I don't want that for anyone and firmly believe that the symptoms of type 2 diabetes are reversible. I want to help people do the reversing.
“My wife and I have collectively, so far, lost over 170 pounds and took our health into our own hands. We did not use any program but instead educated ourselves and applied the information, and we want to help others do the same.
“We are hoping to empower individuals to work within existing budget limitations for their household to make strategic food choices that not only help them find their ideal health but help them become empowered in their relationship with food. We focus on benefits of ketogenic nutrition but are able to discuss individualized approaches as each person is different. We focus on people with diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer and those who suffer from seizures. We also aim to focus on individuals from low-income neighborhoods and want to create a community of interfaith organizations that have potlucks where we can discuss nutrition and how to make it work for us.
“We hope that an [Integrative Nutrition Health Coach certificate] will help us gain visibility and give people more confidence in our ability to help. Our pictures say that we are able to lose weight and become healthy, but [a certificate from IIN] will show that we can help others do the same.”
IIN is grateful for our ongoing partnership with The Sampson Foundation, which allows us to provide free tuition each month to one individual, like Joshua, who is actively working in his or her community to make a difference in health and wellness.
