We recently caught up with one of our graduates of the Health Coach Training Program, Alvaro Matta, to hear about the amazing things that he is doing as a Health Coach. As it turns out, he is doing a lot! Alvaro, a Marine, is working hard to introduce health and wellness to others that are in the military and to veterans. Here is what he has to say about his Integrative Nutrition experience.

What were you doing before Integrative Nutrition?

I am a Marine Corps Veteran that served in the first Gulf War & Somalia. After serving, I went to work for a wine, beer, spirits & new age beverage company. Staying true to the food and beverage industry I made a lateral move to the food side & went to work in sales for SYSCO Food Distributors.

What led you to explore Integrative Nutrition's program?

Listen to your body. This advice changed my life. That advice was given to me by an Integrative Nutrition grad. I'm a Marine, so fitness is a must. It’s embedded into every Marine that "pain is weakness leaving the body". I had a problem that I ignored and almost paid a huge price for, if it was not for that piece of advice. I realized that R&R was needed, it was then I enrolled in the Health Coach Training Program to learn how to take better care of my body.

What has happened since you enrolled in Integrative Nutrition's program?

I’ve created a health coaching practice, Semper Fidelis Health & Wellness. It is a community based non-profit organization founded by two US Marine Corps Veterans. We are proud to be the first and only integrative health and wellness solution providing holistic health & wellness education and programs to active duty & reserve military, veterans, first responders and their families. We are dedicated to improving the lives of all our members through health & wellness, with a special concern for those who suffer from wounds and injuries, post traumatic stress disorder and other combat related illnesses.

What did you learn at Integrative Nutrition?

I learned that with my life experience, work and Integrative Nutrition education, I am going to be a holistic force to be reckoned with!

How has studying with an international Health Coach Training Program benefited you?

I still compete at high levels in adventure racing with a better performance & recovery because of the holistic approach taken.

Is there a need for Health Coaches where you live?

Yes, I am surrounded with unhealthy people, as is every one else!

What do you love about your work?

The handshake when some one thanks me for improving their health and wellness.
